What We're Asking For

What We're Asking For NowThe Bricktown Association and others involved with Canal Connection are asking Oklahoma City’s leaders and citizenry to dream big, but to start relatively small. They have identified their number one priority at this time: being connected to any new convention center via a canal extension. The rendering shown will here illustrates two possible locations of a downtown convention center, with a workable connection for either. An extension that runs directly to the proposed convention center sites could be funded by MAPS 3 for an estimated $25 Million.

This would represent only about 3% to 5% of the projected total cost of MAPS 3, according to officials.

While many or all of the extensions proposed on this website may make sense over the long term, a pedestrian connection to the convention center is critical immediately, both for the convention center itself and for the long-term success of Bricktown.

However sensible this seems, this project is not a guaranteed addition to appear on a MAPS 3 ballot. The only way to guarantee it appears is for members of the public, like you, to act now and contact Oklahoma City's elected officials. Please click here to see information on how to contact them.

The Long Term Dream

Canal Connection’s supporters also ask that as other projects are brought forward for planning and development that the question is always asked: “would a connection to the canal help our project, and would it help downtown?”
